Thanks Kurt! I may order and send you a Troy rail, unless you can get a good deal on one? I like the Troy because it uses the standard barrel nut, so I don't have to remove the barrel to install the rail like the DD or LaRue. Anyway, if you have any questions let me know, and let me know what the balance is and I'll get it to you. Thanx!

That's just one reason I'm recommending the DD Omega for the M9Evo. It's a FF that does not require barrel disassembly and retains the Delta. It's an easy replacement for the standard CAR HG's, and provides easy access to my gas system. Shown here on a LH Stag 5.45x39 that's going to M9Evo next:
 Thx! ----------

I like the Omega and will probably use it on another M4 I have, but since I'm not using a Delta ring on this project I'll have to use something else. I like the Troy because it too gives easy access to your gas system. I think Knights once made their URX with the TOP rail removeable to give access to gas systems, but I have yet to see it on their website. Ares was offering it on their site to give access to the system they offer, but since BM now sells their system I don't what the status is on the rail. Maybe that is another nich you could perfect??

OK. No Delta. I understand. DD M4 fills that bill. You need a .437" wide tunnel whatever you run. I'll be happy to take a look at the Troy should you decide. Thx! ----------

I was leaning towards the Troy because it can be installed over the standard barrel nut rather then using a proprietary nut like the DD. I'm not sure of the channel width on the Troy, can you find out before I order one? They're a little cheaper then the DD but still good quality, but I'll go with the DD if the Troy won't work. If you can let me know, I can either send you the money for one, or I can order one and have it sent to you. Thanx!!

Looks OK on width. The depth/height may have to be machined.

Tell you what, unless you can get me some kind of super dealer discount deal, I'm going to see what kind of deal I can find on either a Troy or a DD, buy it, and send it to you to see if you can fit it to the upper. Either way, I'll get whay I'm looking for; quality, finish, and YOUR gas system!

Hey Kurt, just got some un-expected money(woohoo!) and want to go ahead and send you the second set of parts for a carbine upper in 6.8 for your Evo conversion. Can I order the parts and have them sent direct to you? I'll send a deposit like I did with my pistol upper along with a worksheet, you just tell me what the balance is when it's ready and I'll send the balance. Can we get both uppers completed about the same time? Let me know and I'll order the stuff today. Thanx!

Yes. I'll be shooting a 6.8 Evo carbine later this week. Do you have ammo? Have you been following the progression of +P & +P+? They are trying to reach 2650fps. Thx! ----------

Thanx! I'll order the parts today. Would love to hear how your 6.8 evo works, any pics? I have just set up a Dillon 650 loader, have 500 90gr Sierras and 500 Silver State cases on the way. From what I hear, 2900 has been achieved with the 90gr. 115's average about 2700+ IF they are shot in a barrel with 1:11 twist and SPCII chamber. 1:10 seems to be too fast and if you load it hot you get over-pressure signs. There is a pretty good article on AR15.com forums, look under "variants". The guys from Kotonics, Silver State and others set out to see what they could achieve and there's alot of info there about the loads. Do you need me to send some 6.8 to shoot through mine when you build them?

Hey Kurt, Ok, an upper receiver is enroute from Spike's Tactical and a barrel/BCG/barrel nut/charging handle is enroute from Kotonics for the carbine project. I'll get a MO of to you and when I find the rail(s) I want I'll send them to you as well. I'll include a work order with the MO for the carbine like I did the pistol. Thanx!!!

Yes, you need 1/11. I've got an aquaintence at Lother Walther barrels and we're communicating through e-mail. He wants an Evo on the 1/11 barrel with the hotter loads. Pressure spikes are a concern, so I want to tailor an M9Evo to handle the pressures and keep them flat. Yes, send ammo. Thx! ----------

I agree, 1/11 or even slower is the way to go. My two conversions ought to give you a broad base to work with, 8" pistol and 18" carbine. I'll get my loader sorted out and load up some ammo to send to you, I'll include a range of loads too, so we can see how it works in each barrel. I'll load up some 90gr, 110 and 115 and load it from "standard" to max and include load data so you know what you're dealing with. However, I don't currently have a running 6.8 so I won't be able to give velocity readings unless I get my hands on a rifle to use as a test bed. I'll use formulas from the Kotonics web page and include them. The upper I ordered should be in your hands today or tomorrow, the barrel and other parts should be to you by next week. Thanks!

Hey Kurt, I got the delivery notice in my email this AM, WAY cool! Haven't seen anything about he Ko-tonics parts yet though, and according to SSA my brass won't be here until next week, so it will be a minute before I can get some test ammo to you. How much will you need? I only ordered five hundred pieces of brass. Also, will it be possible for you to send the brass back to me? That sh*t is expensive! Looking for rails, talk about expensive.....

Kurt, got a delivery notice on the Ko-tonics parts, should be to you tuesday. I also found a pretty good deal on LaRue rails, I may go that route. How much ammo do you need? I think I will order factory ammo from Art at SSA instead of my handloads. That way we're sure of the loads for the testing, since I don't have a rifle or chronometer yet to establish velocity. Let me know how much ammo you will need and I'll call Art. Thanks!

Hey Kurt, great! I was hoping they got there ok. There is a brief note in the envelope w/MO, but here's a run down on the 18" carbine; Install barrel on lower w/Evo gas piston system/rail system. I am ordering the rail system(s) and will hopefully get it to you before you start on the project. I should be able to get you the rail for my pistol project too. If the ammo gets here it will go in the same box as the rails so you can test fire too. About when were you looking at starting on the projects? Thanks!

Hey Kurt! Trying to track down a rail system for the pistol and carbine uppers I sent you. What is the minumum length the carbine rail needs to be? I found 9" DD, which I know will work for the pistol, it'll just be longish. But what about the 18" carbine? Will 9" be long enough? Let me know, I have the factory ammo, I just need to order the rails and send them to you. Thanx! P.S. any of those uppers in the photo mine?

Kurt, Ok, on their way to you direct from Larue are two(2) Larue rails, one 7" and one 10". The short one is for my 6.8 pistol upper, the 10" one is for my 18" upper. Also on it's way is a seperate box with 40 rounds of SSA "combat" loads, 115gr. +P ammo for testing as requested. I assume all metal componants will be parkerised except for the barrel(18") that has the DLC finish already on it? I forgot to address finish in previous memos. I think this about wraps up what I wanted done to both uppers, if there is anything I left out please don't hesitate to point out anything left un-said. Thanks!! Chris

I should be able to ship next week. I have several Evo's that I want to ship. I'm doing the best I can. Been a long week. I'm looking forward to working a pit crew at Jennings Racway (N. FL) tomorrow for a 6 hr. MC endurance race. They won't let me wear anything Honda, since this is a Yamaha team. Trailering my blue Magna up behind Bro's van, and riding it back from Palatka. Bro's pulling, and is covereing the Bike Swap/Show in Palatka Sunday, so I will offload in Palatka tomorrow evening and ride back to the Swamp. I'll get back here late tomorrow night. I'll be plenty beat. Thx! ----------
